Paleogene birds

London clay is a marine deposit from the Paleogene period - 60/50 million years ago. London was, back then, covered by a warm tropical sea.

Each bird comes in its very own handmade bag.

London Clay Birds

Each bird is unique. Made using London clay. They are each sculpted to represent the city's little birds - wrens, robins, tits etc. As the clay is unpurified I get a variety of effects when they are fired. Some turn an almost terracota red colour others go dark brown, I aslo find some turn out smooth and others are textured. As I said, they're all different. I polish with a bit of wax and let them be. They are very tactile objects, lovely to hold and have a quality not unlike a stress ball.
